The General Idea of This Period
In this period we will learn the usage of verb-ing form as an adverb.First we’ll give time for the students to read and think over the contents in Page 30.Let them know a verb-ing can be used as adverbial to express time,reason,result,accompaniment and condition.We have to pay attention to the differences between“doing”and“having done”,the place of“not”,helping the students use verb-ing properly.Certainly,we will focus on the practice of the grammar.Learn to use by using.By reading the last part of the conversation between the environmentalist and the economist,we will have a more clear map of what their opinions about the environmental protection is.The students are asked to rewrite adverbial clauses into verb-ing to have more practice.
Step 2 Lead-in
T:Last period we learned verb-ing used as an adjective.Today,we will talk about the usage of verb-ing used as an adverb.Now,please open your books to Page 30.Read and pay attention to the words after the black spots and the words in blue to see how verb-ing form here is used like an adverb,what they can express.(When the students read Page 30,the teacher walks around the class to help solve any problems the students may raise.)
