专题导读

读写任务说明文写作，要了解说明的主旨以及说明的顺序，要求学生按照合理的顺序或按一定的写作线索选用适当的连接词，将句子连珠成串，使各句连成结构紧凑、层次分明、语义连贯的短文。

阅读下面的短文，然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

Reading is a pleasure of the mind, which means that it is a little like a sport: your eagerness and knowledge and quickness make you a good reader.Reading is fun, not because the writer is telling you something, but because it makes your mind work.Your own imagination works along with the author’s or even goes beyond his.Your experience, compared with his, brings you to the same or different conclusions, and your ideas develop, as you understand his.


Reading can only be fun if you expect it to be.If you concentrate on books somebody make you read, you probably won’t have fun.But if you put down a book you don’t like and try another till you find one that means something to you, and then relax with it, you will almost have a good time and if you become, as a result of reading, better, wiser, kinder, or more gentle, you won’t have suffered during the process.

Unfortunately, with TV broadcasting 24 hours a day, many people have lost interest in reading.Whenever they are free and have some leisure time, they turn on the TV and watch whatever is on.It’s a pity that children today have far less interest in books than a TV set.

Reading or Watching?

Reading, which makes our mind work, is fun and valuable to us.However, it’s a pity that many people, having lost interest in it, prefer watching TV to reading.

I share the same feeling with the author.I think reading is a wonderful thing and I like reading very much.Firstly, reading is the chief means of acquiring knowledge.Books are a treasure house of human wisdom.Almost all great people are great readers.Reading makes a person wise, noble, polite and useful.What’s more,


reading can be a good means of recreation.If the book is interesting or suits you, you can find pleasure in reading it.Last but not the least, reading develops one’s imagination.In short, reading is an active and useful activity for everybody.

But today there is too much for us to watch on TV.There is no doubt that programs are lively and interesting, some of which bring us fun and make us relaxed.However, most TV programs are recreational and imaginary.They are not based on the real life.What’s worse, some violence does exist in some programmes.With harmful effects, such programmes can not help to enrich our knowledge.


In my opinion, reading benefits us greatly.I hope people, especially children, will read more and watch less TV.

Why do we learn literature in class? To remember the history of our country is the main thing.Classical articles can tell us what happened in earlier times.But it is a truth that many articles are difficult for junior high school students to understand.They need teachers to guide them and it isn’t of any benefit to a student’s growing knowledge.

One possible version：

Reading classical literature is of great benefit to the ways of thinking in our personal life and broadening our view.Lu Xun’s articles are among the classical literature, but they bring about different opinions.

Personally, it is necessary for us to read classical literature because they provide us with a great many benefits.Firstly, they broaden our view, which show us different life aspects in different times.What’s more, setting up a number of images of heroes, good classical literature helps us build our personality and the right value of life.We learn how to behave well from the literature.


However, we need to read them in a correct way.We are supposed to choose some that are suitable for us to understand better.If they are too difficult to understand, we will get nothing but only to waste time.Additionally, the content should be close to our life so that we can combine the books with our real life.Anyhow, not all the classical literature is absolutely suitable for everyone without exception.

In a word, only if we read suitable literature can we really obtain what they tell us.

How can the writing skills of secondary level students, in a large class, be developed?

I would divide the class into groups of 5 or 6 students and give them different topics with a list of words they must use when writing a paragraph or a composition (depends on their level)．Then, ask each group to present it in front of the others.They like and feel important because they can also ask about their classmates’ opinions.

For practice as well as to save time, give the students homework for the improvement of writing.Tell them any story and tell them they will have to write for tomorrow what they just heard, or show them any movie and tell them the same thing.It became more beneficial for me really when I adopted this method here in Pakistan.Thanks.

Background music can be useful for creating a mood for written work or inspiring written work but should be used not simply as background music but rather as an important part of setting the mood or scene for the work.Background music, as used in shopping centers could become irritating or distracting to students.

I believe, Firstly, improving our writing skills should start with a phrase, then a sentence, then a paragraph.The


problem we met is that we don’t have good memories, and always forget words when we pick up a pen.Secondly, as Chinese says goes，“Thousands of books make perfect writings.”We should read more and do exercise less.The fact is that we seldom read newspapers or magazines but the textbooks and grammar exercises. Practice makes perfect not exercises make perfect.Thirdly, but not at least less importantly, we should keep a diary in English.If we are determined to improve our writing skills, we can make it, no matter large or small classes.
